Summer 2023 Must-Haves: Shine, Stay Protected, and Stay Hydrated

Summer is here

And you know what that means—it's time to shine, feel confident in our skin, and make the most out of this sizzling season! Light the grill, send out the invites and get ready for a great season. Here are five summer must-haves that will have you strutting your stuff. 

1. This is for the ladies of all shades of beauty! Growing up I was told on multiple occassions that "black people don't need sunscreen" and guess what? They were wrong. Many sunburns later I figured out the truth. I now use sunscreen everyday, especially on my face and neck. Sun exposure, particularly to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, can wreak havoc on your skin. Prolonged and unprotected exposure can lead to a range of effects, including sunburn, premature aging, skin discoloration and skin cancer. Applying sunscreen every morning can decrease sun exposure but it is import to maintain protection throughout the day. 4. This next must-have is for the music lover. If you are anything like me and love to have background music on ALL THE TIME (seriously, it may be a problem) then look no further. This waterproof, portable speaker allows you to listen to your favorite tunes wherever you go. I personally have been enjoying The Queen Charlotte soundtrack but that's just me. 5. Water is life, ya'll. And it is a full time job trying to stay hydrated, but staying hydrated and drinking water aren't always synonymus. Adding electrolytes to your water will add to and help maintain your hydration. Instead of picking up a Gatorade from King Soopers you can make electrolyte water at home with just a couple of ingredients. Fill up your cup or water bottle with 8oz of water, squeeze in 2 or more tablespoons of lemon juice, and add a pinch of salt.  Sip your way to hydration.
